Pancasila as the Foundation of Legal Ethics in International Diplomacy

Abstract

Pancasila, as the foundation of the Indonesian state, functions not only as the nation's ideological basis but also as an ethical-legal foundation in international diplomacy. This study aims to analyze the relevance and implementation of Pancasila's values in Indonesia's diplomatic practices, particularly in safeguarding sovereignty, building a positive image, and contributing to global peace. The research employed a qualitative descriptive approach through content analysis of official documents, international organization reports, academic literature, and case studies of Indonesia's diplomacy in various international forums. Data were also enriched with interviews and secondary sources to strengthen the analysis. The findings reveal that the principle of just and civilized humanity is reflected in Indonesia's role in humanitarian assistance and peacekeeping missions, including its support for refugees and active participation in UN peacekeeping operations. The principle of unity and deliberation is evident in regional diplomacy, such as Indonesia's role in ASEAN and its mediation in the Mindanao peace process. Furthermore, the principle of social justice underlies Indonesia's advocacy on global inequality issues in forums such as the G20 and the United Nations. The application of these values not only strengthens Indonesia's position on the global stage but also highlights an ethical, humanistic, and sustainable form of diplomacy. In conclusion, Pancasila remains highly relevant as an ethical-legal guideline in contemporary diplomacy. Its values provide strategic direction for Indonesia in addressing global challenges while reinforcing its contribution to world peace and stability. With consistent application, Pancasila has the potential to serve as a model for ethical diplomacy for other nations.
