Abstract

This study aims to analyze the integration of Islamic ecotheological values in Islamic Religious Education (PAI) learning at UPT SMPN 4 Medan. Islamic ecotheology is a field of study that connects the theological dimensions of Islam with environmental concern, drawing on the concepts of khalifah, amanah, and mizan in the Qur'an and Hadith. This study used a descriptive qualitative method with a case study approach. Data were collected through participatory observation, in-depth interviews with PAI teachers, the principal, and students, as well as documentation. The findings show that: (1) PAI teachers have integrated ecotheological values, such as the concept of khalifah fil ardh, the prohibition of israf, and the responsibility to protect nature, into learning materials; (2) the methods used include environment-based project learning, tadabbur alam, and thematic discussion; and (3) students showed a significant increase in environmental awareness after the implementation of ecotheology-based learning. These findings imply the importance of strengthening the PAI curriculum based on ecotheology as a response to the global environmental crisis.
